Herbs And Weight Loss

If you are like me, then you are always trying to keep your weight in check. As we get older it  seems  we pack on the weight  faster than losing it. But let me share a few natural herbal remedies that can help curb your appetite.

Chickweed tea- helps to rev up the metabolism along with its many other benefits. Drink a few cups of this tea and watch the pounds start to drop.

Bee Pollen is another herbal remedy but to be honest, I didn’t find any research where it actually helps with weight loss. However, it has other benefits, but nothing relating to weight.

Coconut oil- heats up your metabolism which then burns calories. It is tasty and you can just about add it to any meal that requires some form of oil.

Green Tea- stimulates the metabolism and does help with dieting

Fenugreek- is another herb that helps with weight loss. This herb you can get in tablet form or tea.

A few other herbs that help with dieting or just keeping an eye on your weight are:
Ginger, Alfalfa, chicory root, Brown mustard seed, Anise, and citrus peel. Combine one or more of these herbs together than you have a powerhouse drink.

Check your local health food stores for these herbs and try them out.

The Soldier

I came across this saying and I wanted to share it with everyone. Very true, and beautifully expressed. Let us remember and honor them this coming Memorial Day.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Natural Constipation Remedies

Constipation is a very uncomfortable feeling and when the stools become hard and dry it makes it worse to try and eliminate them. Constipation is caused by loss of enough the muscle contractions that help to move food through the digestive system.

When constipation occurs it is due to undigested food that moves too slowly in the large intestines and stops the body’s process to  empty the bowels. The stools build up and remains in contact with the intestines which absorbs the extra water drying out the stool.

Bloating, gas, and discomfort sets in. There are a few natural remedies that you can do to help get yourself going. Warm water usually triggers the muscles to contract and helps stimulate the bowels.

There are herbs that are known as “alterative herbs”( that restore your bowels to a normal health) that can be effective in relieving cases of chronic constipation. The dried roots of yellow dock, dandelion, burdock root, and Oregon grape. These herbs are bitter, but when consumed, they can promote digestion, stomach acidity, and bile flow.

You can purchase these herbs in tincture form and use 1 dropper 3-7 times a day.
Flaxseed provides fiber with essential oils that help to lubricate and soften the stools.
Figs also provide fiber and aids in digestion.

As always, check with your doctor before using any herbal tinctures or supplements.

Natural Pain Reliever

Devil"s Claw Herb

This is my review on Devil's Claw, a natural pain reliever

Dealing with pain, muscle stiffness, and inflammation caused by arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis and, headache can be uncomfortable or debilitating. And if you are like me, I don’t care for prescription medication. I prefer to go “natural”.

I use Devil’s claw tincture for my pain. It is from Africa and its shape looks like an evil claw, hence devil's claw. This herb works great! It relieves pain, stiffness and works wonderfully with dealing with headaches.

You can use it for any joint ailment because it is an anti-inflammatory herb. I use it constantly whenever I have an ache or a  headache. I use the tincture form as it works quickly instead of the capsules.

But I warn you it tastes awful, so I will put it in coffee, or coke, something to camouflage the taste but it is worth it. It works well with stomach problems, but I use it only for pain.

You can buy it online or in your health food store.

I would love to hear from you if you tried it

Trouble Sleeping?

Trouble Sleeping? Sleep is important because it affects our health and our moods, energy, behaviors, and emotions. Although, there is no real “normal” amount of sleep it is important to get about seven to eight hours sleep.

With lack of sleep you can feel fatigued, and your immune system is not able to defend the body against disease. But there are some natural remedies can help.

Try snacking on a banana or crackers before bed as the level in “serotonin” the hormone that reduces anxiety will help. Melatonin supplements can help you get into a healthy sleep cycle and taking these supplements can actually help improve your sleep.

Valerian can be taken, but the taste is bitter so it is best to put it into some juice or tea.
Try the “super supplements” ginseng and nutrient rich alfalfa and royal jelly.
Chamomile flower, Hops, or Skullcap herbal tea will  help you relax before going to bed.

Avoid stress, when possible, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, pain relievers and over the counter decongestants.

As always, check with your doctor before taking any supplements

Natural Remedies and Motion Sickness

If you are like me the very thought of mountains roads, rough seas, and a hitting turbulence in the air just conjures up memories of nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and those cold sweats that a person feels dealing with motion sickness.

Even though it will not kill you, motion sickness is a miserable feeling and one you don’t want to ever experience. The reason a person suffers with motion sickness is that the inner ear, is what controls balance and plays a main role in motion sickness.

The inner ear catches every motion, and reports it back to the brain, which then triggers the symptoms. You can develop motion sickness with visual stimuli, anxiety, bad odors, and fear. The inner sends confusing messages to the brain even though you may be at rest sitting in a car, which then causes over stimulation and releases stress hormones causing havoc.

Natural remedies like herbal teas, essential oils, and even acupressure can help ease symptoms of motion sickness.

Ginger tea prevents nausea and can be more effective than any other over the counter remedies for motion sickness. It helps relieve cramps, nausea, and any digestive upset.
Peppermint tea works just as well.

Essential oils like Basil relieves cramping and soothes nervous stomachs and digestive upsets. Just place a few drops on a cloth and inhale
Peppermint oil also provides relief from nausea  just place a few drops on a cloth and inhale.
Neroli oil can also help with nausea and helps calm the stomach.

A certain acupressure area to stop nausea is located on the inside of your lower arm about 2 inches from your wrist. Apply light pressure in a circular motion. You can find wristbands that when worn will stimulate the area.

Suffering With Brittle Nails?

Do You Suffer With Brittle Nails?

If you are like me, you like a nice manicured nail that you can show off without hiding your hands. But brittle nails can certainly make you feel self conscious about your hands.

Our nails are made out of “keratin” which is responsible for the firmness of the nail. When there is a lock, or deficiency in keratin, the nails become brittle and split. A keratin deficiency can be caused either by malnutrition or it can be from low stomach acid.

Some circulatory disorders, mineral and protein deficiencies, and even a lack of vitamin C has been known to affect the healthy nail growth. Brittle or split nails can be caused by long term exposure to chemicals that are in detergents.

Brittle nails are often in women than men, and to prevent and correct brittle nails, try natural remedy teas and finger baths to help strengthen the nails. Regular filing and nail care will help prevent nail damage.

Herbal teas to drink- nettle leaves, horsetail herb, chamomile blossoms, and yarrow. Drink a cup of any of these teas 3 times a day. These teas are high in minerals, and are anti-inflammatory as well.

Slow Aging By Eating Peanuts!

Yes, that's right, you can slow aging by eating peanuts.
You all have probably heard of “Resveratrol”, it's a flavonoid that is found in foods like- red wine, grape juice, and red skinned peanuts!
It helps protect the cells against age damage and also helps boost the flow of blood to the brain. Interestingly enough by just eating a quarter cup of peanuts will provide 100% of your niacin needs, which is a nutrient that has been proven to reduce Alzheimer's risk as much as 70%.

Snacking on peanuts also helps curb the appetite and aids in shedding pounds. Now don’t overdo it because of the calorie content in peanuts, but just eating 40 peanuts as a snack is equivalent to an ounce which is acceptable to just about any diet.
Peanuts are also a good source of protein and there is a variety to choose from.

I wrote this in June of 2014 for another site and am reposting it to my Blog. An oldie but a goodie, especially with summer upon us.

Natural Ways To Deal With Bad Breath

Bad breath, or “ halitosis” can be a real embarrassment and cause us to shy away from others due to it. However, bad breath is a condition you can usually correct easily, by using sprays or mouth rinses but it would be wise to get to the cause of it.

The most obvious cause can be gum disease, poor dental hygiene, dry mouth, smoking, and chronic throat and nasal infection. Mouth or throat inflammation, as well as gasses that can travel up from the stomach when the digestive system is not functioning properly.

Drinking herbal tea such as: Myrrh, both an astringent and antibacterial is known for its ability to correct mouth and gum inflammation, and strengthen the gums.

Using Myrrh in a tincture form allows you to rinse or gargle with it and peppermint tea will help with digestion. Drinking sage tea helps with inflammation of the gums, mouth, and throat.

Losing Weight And The Power Of Juicing

Have you ever thought  of Juicing To Lose Weight? Many of us are considering losing a few pounds with the summer months just upon us and juicing is certainly one way to go  and a healthy one at that.

We all want to lose weight  and look good in our bathing suits or for  a special event. We try all types of diets, some work and some don’t. When losing weight, it is important to be sure that we lose fat and not muscle.

Why not try a vegetable and fruit juice? The combination will neutralize the uric acid better than water, and helps increase the healing effects. Juices help support your metabolism and fasting when you are trying to shed those excess pounds.

Using water, your metabolism slows down and the body goes into starvation mode and you lose less. Juices are easy to digest, and enter the blood stream easily. They also will not hurt the detoxification process that your body is going through.

Traditional Chinese medicine

Using Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine has been used for thousands of years and it had first been recorded in the “Yellow Emperor’s Classic book of Internal Medicine between 400 B.C. and 200 B.C.

This type of medicine is based on the free flow of all life force Qi- which is reflected in all living and thinking as well as in the blood, circulation, and vision.

There is a wide range of healing methods such as: massage, acupuncture, diet, and remedies made from natural herbs. What the doctors did to examine a patient is to use the tongue and pulse to diagnose.

Qi- is a mixture of what we receive from heaven, the earth, and the air and from water and food. Qi is our life force and it flows through the body. By paying attention to the small signals you receive from your body will provide valuable information to help you.
