Low Blood Pressure

We are always concerned about high blood pressure, but what about
low blood pressure.  Well, basically it is caused by poor blood flow in the body.

When a person is sitting or lying down and when they get up the blood
accumulates in the veins and for a brief time less the blood flows up to the heart
 and brain,
and this shortage of blood flow is what cause the pressure to drop.

People who suddenly get dizzy, or have a rapid heartbeat or blackouts when
getting up or standing too long can be a sign of low blood pressure.

Signs can be sweating, fatigue, paleness, sleep problems, and difficulty
concentrating.  Medicinal plants can help increase circulation like rosemary or hawthorn both
help to strengthen the circulatory system.

People aren’t aware of some of the dangers of stress, and what it can do to their body and mind. Stress is bad for the heart, and taxes the body, it will give you give, you headaches, make you feel depressed, tired, and anxious. Some stress is healthy, but it is important to balance stress to live a healthier life.

We all deal with stress on a daily basis, but stress can occur from many different things. For instance, bills,  lack of funds,  not having a job, a bad relationship, health issues and even kids can stress you out.

Find ways to do enjoyable things that will elevate your mood, walking, exercise, swimming,
take a, bubble bath, read a book, anything that you enjoy. There are many ways that you can de-stress and bring relief to your body and mind.

Have a positive outlook and know that everything will work out. Focus on one problem at a time so that you don’t “over load” your emotions.

Stay away from people who are “negative” and are always complaining, instead try and be around positive, upbeat people, where their happy outlook can be contagious.Eat healthy, don’t drink or smoke excessively, and exercise. It has been proven that exercise actually helps you deal with stress.

Suffering With Brittle Nails?

Do You Suffer With Brittle Nails?

If you are like me, you like a nice manicured nail that you can show off without hiding your hands. But brittle nails can certainly make you feel self conscious about your hands.

Our nails are made out of “keratin” which is responsible for the firmness of the nail. When there is a lock, or deficiency in keratin, the nails become brittle and split. A keratin deficiency can be caused either by malnutrition or it can be from low stomach acid.

Some circulatory disorders, mineral and protein deficiencies, and even a lack of vitamin C has been known to affect the healthy nail growth. Brittle or split nails can be caused by long term exposure to chemicals that are in detergents.

Brittle nails are often in women than men, and to prevent and correct brittle nails, try natural remedy teas and finger baths to help strengthen the nails. Regular filing and nail care will help prevent nail damage.

Herbal teas to drink- nettle leaves, horsetail herb, chamomile blossoms, and yarrow. Drink a cup of any of these teas 3 times a day. These teas are high in minerals, and are anti-inflammatory as well.

Does Short Term Diets Work To Lose Weight?

Are you one of the many thousands of people who are overweight and look for a “quick fix” to lose those extra pounds? 50% of adults in the U.S have a mindset of thinness in our society and it is no wonder that losing weight is a major concern for so many people.

Diets catering to this frenzy with promises of a quick fix to banish the weight forever are becoming popular. Can they really deliver their promise? The real answer is NO. These short term diets promoted to be the best way to lose weight can hinder you in the long run.

Many people who have tried these diets have regained the pounds back as soon as they stopped dieting. Some diets prohibit you from eating certain foods which can cause health issues.

The only way to lose weight is to change your eating habits. Since they are usually deeply ingrained, which is not an easy task to overcome. Yo-Yo dieting creates weight loss than gain. Yo-yo dieting will make losing weight more difficult and can contribute to eating disorders.

The more times you lose weight and then regain it the slower your metabolism becomes. This is another reason why short term diets are not at all beneficial to losing weight permanently.
Short term dieters will at first lose mostly water and if calories are cut dramatically muscle tissue may be burned and lost as well.
Be sensible when trying to lose weight, eat right, exercise which helps burn calories and try and stay away from sweets, and processed foods. Add whole grains to your diet and I have personally found adding soup as one of my meals has helped tremendously and I add turmeric or curry to my foods as it helps speed up my metabolism.

Be kind to yourself and patience the weight didn’t happen overnight, but be determined and you will see results.

Is Your Thyroid Obstructing Your Weight Loss?

Thyroid Gland
Is  Your Thyroid  Obstructing Your Weight Loss?

Your thyroid controls your metabolism and if it is not working properly it can cause havoc with your body.  So if you are attempting to lose weight and can’t, perhaps you need to take a look at your thyroid.

Now we all understand that adjusting our food portions along with cutting calories to help lose weight, but when your metabolism is not working properly it can hinder your weight loss. A condition called “hypothyroidism” is the culprit. It slows the metabolism down and can actually harm and create health problems.

Now, you cut your food portions, and calories, but what you need to be careful of is that when people are suffering with a slow metabolism, they may cut calories too much and the body goes into a hoarder mode which is the body slows down even more because it is not getting enough fuel for energy.

Now, with a slow metabolism you start eating healthy meals and then discover that you have gained weight. You are feeding the body with fuel for energy, but you are not losing weight it due to your metabolism.

It is wise to see a doctor if you are trying to lose weight and can’t, your metabolism may be the problem.
